Amazon has done quite well in eCommerce space and seems like it is preparing to launch a “digital currency” project in Mexico, North America. Interesting, let’s dig deeper!
If you’ve recently scanned thru the job postings on Amazon you might have come across a couple of job post from Amazon’s Digital and Emerging Payments (DEP) division for a yet to be announced the project. The project envisages launching digital currency in emerging economies. They intend hiring software development engineers “at all levels” in Mexico.
Apart from that, Amazon is scouting for the leader of its Digital and Emerging Payments (DEP) initiative in consumer payments. The multinational has listed job postings for a Senior Manager and Managers to drive the payment product.
“This product will enable customers to convert their cash into digital currency using which customers can enjoy online services including shopping for goods and/or services like Prime Video,” one job post said of Amazon’s “new payment product.”
At present, not much known about the type of digital currency Amazon plan to accept from customers. But one may recall, Amazon in 2013 had launched Amazon to allow Kindle and game users to pay for goods and services. In their connection? Time will tell.
