It’s not uncommon seeing major platforms in various industries incorporating some form of crypto support. Recently, game-centric messaging platform Discord will soon launch integrations for Ethereum, according to the platform’s CEO, Jason Citron.
The CEO shared a screenshot showing support for MetaMask and WalletConnect integrations.
Citron’s announcement came as a reply to a tweet from Packy McCormick, the founder of Not Boring. He shared an article saying:
“Imagine a human website, a place where dank memes flow like honey, a place where potatoes thrive. Imagine a place where humans and bots live in harmony & in other words, a place like Discord.”
Although the screenshot of the pre-released application shows the entrant of Ethereum in Discord, the gaming community has resisted this move. They’ve highlighted the ecosystem’s ongoing issues with carbon emissions, money laundering, and uncertainties in the NFT market.
Also, the backlash resulted in numerous users ending subscriptions to Discord Nitro. Discord Nitro is the platform’s premium service closing $4.99 a month or $49.99 for a year.
On the other hand, many users from the gaming community have appreciated this incorporation. Some have even called out the naysayers showing uncertainty with this integration:
“You really just called the NFT space a ponzi scheme without valid evidence. Don’t comment on anything when you have no idea about the space.”
MetaMask integrations have brought millions of users to the crypto space. Recently, crypto payment gateway Bitfinex Pay launched a MetaMask integration to its platform. Soon after this incorporation, Bitfinex Pay added over 10 million new users for sending and receiving payments in cryptocurrencies.
