You could soon use Bitcoin as payments on Amazon

Bitcoin is getting huge traction in traditional financial systems this year. And it looks like Amazon, arguably the biggest e-commerce website in the world, also wants some of that action.

An anonymous source within Amazon has tipped a London business newspaper about the e-commerce giant’s plan of incorporating Bitcoin payments. While a clear date isn’t available, Amazon could support this feature by the year-end.

According to the report published yesterday, the source told:

“This isn’t just going through the motions to set up cryptocurrency payment solutions at some point in the future – this is a full-on, well-discussed, integral part of the future mechanism of how Amazon will work.”

Initially, only Bitcoin will be accepted. However, executives are keen on adding support for more cryptos in the future. The source also said:

“The directive is coming from the very top, this entire project is pretty much ready to roll.”

Amazon’s attitude towards the crypto market is very bullish. So much so that it even plans to create its own cryptocurrency, possibly as early as 2022.

Rumours about Amazon’s entry into the crypto market aren’t surprising, as the e-commerce giant had put out a new posting for “Digital Currency and Blockchain Product Lead” on the company’s job board last week. Under the job description, the new hire will develop Amazon’s digital currency strategy and product map. Amazon is also looking for someone with strong domain expertise in blockchain, distributed ledgers, and central bank digital currencies.

An interesting fact: This wasn’t even the first job posting by Amazon regarding cryptocurrencies. The company had previously recruited a technical lead for developing its new “Digital and Emerging Payments” platform.
