Atari had launched a digital currency and announced plans to join Ethereum virtual reality game Sandbox in October 2020. On March 8, The entertainment software company announced that they’ll be launching a casino in a metaverse called Decentraland.
Decentraland is a blockchain-based virtual reality platform for artists, gamers, students, and online communities that is powered by the Ethereum blockchain. It enables users to create and monetize their virtual reality content and applications.
According to the announcement, the gaming platform will be showcasing classic video games and Atari themed NFTs.
Atari was a video game console and software firm especially popular in the 70s. As of now, Atari Interactive is a subsidiary of Atari SA.
Atari has been planning a comeback since past couple of years and while discovering blockchain technology, came with their own digital asset last year. Atari is trying to build a themed gaming casino inside the metaverse Decentraland called “Vegas City”.
The company’s CEO Frederic Chesanis asserted that by partnering up with Decentral Games, they’ll be able to “move the Atari gaming experience onto the blockchain.” The platform will feature Atari’s big hits and their memorable games as well as NFTs relating to it.
