Airbnb may accept payments in select cryptocurrencies in 2022. Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, has hinted through his tweet after doing a poll on Twitter.
The buzz about the crypto payment started when he tweeted, “If Airbnb could launch anything in 2022, what would it be?”
He received about 4000 suggestions, out of which he shared the top six, in which “Crypto payments” topped the list. As per the tweet, work has already been started on some suggestions. It seems the payment options will soon have crypto as an option apart from the regular modes. Airbnb currently accepts payments via Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal. Once the crypto payment is accepted, the company will be in the league of Tesla and AMC in accepting the crypto as payment.
The other suggestions were clear pricing details, a guest loyalty program, updated cleaning fees, more long-term stays and discounts and better customer service. The company is a leading online platform providing lodging services and rental home stays for vacations, apart from tourism activities.
Even if the company starts dealing in cryptocurrency, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Earlier, in an interview with the Verge in November 2021, he mentioned that Airbnb is looking into cryptocurrency and metaverse.
We are definitely looking into it. Absolutely. Like the revolution in travel, there is clearly a revolution happening in crypto. Airbnb and crypto both have interesting relationships with trust
It’s only the beginning of the new year. Thus, there remain a lot more surprises for cryptocurrencies. Nevertheless, mass adaptability of crypto payments would further increase the positivity in the moods of crypto proponents, and the future of crypto will shine brighter in 2022!
