Airbnb planning to support Crypto amidst Ukraine crisis

Countries and companies across the world are trying to help the citizens in Ukraine amidst its ongoing crisis. Recently, popular home rental service Airbnb has decided to support crypto in order to help refugees in Ukraine.

CEO of Airbnb, Brian Chesky talked about his company’s efforts to help refugees in Ukraine. He also talked about providing housing for up to 100,000 refugees during an interview with CNBC yesterday.

According to its website, Airbnb has over 5 million active listings worldwide with more than 4 million hosts.

When asked about whether Airbnb will support crypto as people in Ukraine are using it to make payments, He replied:

Airbnb is. I mean, I am personally supportive of the idea of crypto, of course. I think it’s a really interesting technology.

In addition to that, he said:

“I went on Twitter at the beginning of the year and I asked a community on Twitter if Airbnb can launch anything in 2022, what would it be? The number one response was [to] add crypto payments, so I have a team looking into that.”

Although Brian looked optimistic for the adoption of crypto in the future, he still stated it to be an early time for it. Also, the company is focusing on solutions specific to this crisis. In his words:

“We are absolutely looking into this and specific to this crisis. So right now we’re really focused on is providing housing for refugees. That’s what I’ve mobilized a team to do.

This isn’t the first time Airbnb talked about crypto incorporation. Last year, the company has filed a prospectus to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In that document, they named blockchain and crypto as technologies they’re considering.
