Coca-Cola is soon going to launch its branded ‘virtual wearables’ as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This will include a ‘wearable’ jacket for the avatars in the blockchain-based metaverse Decentraland.
This will be the company’s first NFT collection, along with the celebration of International Friendship Day. Moreover, all the money received from NFTs will go towards Special Olympics.
The company’s NFT called “Coca-Cola Friendship Box” resembles its vending machines back in the day. There are three unique NFTs inside the box:
- A branded bubble jacket,
- A sound visualizer (with the sound of a bottle opening or a beverage poured over ice), and
- A friendship card resembling Coca-Cola’s collectible trading cards of the 1940s.
On their NFT launch, Coca-Cola’s president Selman Carega said:
“Coca-Cola is one of the most collectible brands in the world, sharing its rich heritage with consumers through simple moments of joy for decades. We are excited to share our first NFTs with the metaverse where new friendships are forged in new ways in new worlds.”
These digital assets have one more interesting feature. In the metaverse, users can wear these digital assets. Moreover, Coca-Cola will host a “Rooftop Party” on the platform celebrating the launch.
Coca-Cola has partnered up with Avatar developer Tafi to create this new NFT collection. Tafi has an avatar creation platform and has partnered up with many brands before. Moreover, it has developed avatars, avatar clothing, and NFT collections. In addition to that, the company also has partnerships with Samsung for AR Emoji’s clothing and clothing brand Champions for NFTs.
OpenSea marketplace will auction the Coca-Cola NFTs. These NFTs will be available on the marketplace on July 30 for 92 hours.
