Bakkt’s Digital Wallet app lets you pay via BTC at Starbucks

Digital Asset management app Bakkt can now be used for paying items via Bitcoin. Initially, a group of 500,000 users participated in testing this new feature before launch according to the company’s CEO Gavin Michael.

Gavin added,

“The average consumer holds a wealth of digital assets – from gift cards to loyalty points to bitcoin – but lacks the tools to adequately track and utilize their value. We’re thrilled to bring the Bakkt App to the public as a step along our journey to expand digital asset access to all.”

This means that you can now pay with BTC by leveraging the Bakkt wallet at the popular chain of coffeehouses called Starbucks. Along with Starbucks, Golfnow, Best Buy, Choice Hotels and Fiserv will join the suite as well.

Upon this announcement, Starbucks VP of global card, commerce and payments, Karl Herbert stated that the teams had worked closely to develop a trusted payment experience. He added that such an experience will enable customers to unlock the value of their digital assets in the form of U.S. dollars:

“We are excited that customers now have the opportunity to use Bakkt to load their Starbucks Card in the Starbucks app and then use it to pay at Starbucks.”
