Google CEO shares details regarding their Web3 and Blockchain strategies

CEO of Alphabet Inc. and Google, Sundar Pichai has recently briefed about his company’s strategy towards Blockchain and Web3.

During the company’s Q4 earnings call last week, Sundar Pichai said:

“Anytime there is innovation, I find it exciting. On web3, we are definitely looking at blockchain, and such an interesting and powerful technology with broad applications, so much broader, again, than anyone application.”

In addition to that, he said that this company is looking at interoperability between different company products and propositions:

“Just one example, our Cloud team is looking at how they can support our customers’ needs in building, transacting, storing value, and deploying their products on blockchain-based platforms.

Finally, Pichai concluded by saying that their company is looking at this space closely. Moreover, their company is supporting it wherever they find a suitable avenue:

“So we’ll definitely be watching the space closely and supporting it where we can. Overall, I think technology will continue to evolve and innovate and we want to be pro-innovation and approach it that way.”

A couple of weeks back, Google’s cloud division developed a group to build a business around blockchain applications. Head of the strategy for digital assets at Google’s cloud unit, Richard Widmann stated that the group will hire people with blockchain expertise.

Moreover, the executive also said that Google is evaluating the services it can provide to blockchain developers. Currently, the CEO of Google Cloud, Thomas Kurian has identified retail and health care as potential segments.

Besides the group at Google Cloud, Engineering vice-president at Google, Shivakumar Venkataraman has also devised a unit, focusing on blockchain. Moreover, that unit will focus on “blockchain and other next-gen distributed computing and data storage technologies.”
