U.S postal service eyeing NFTs for ePostage labels

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has taken blockchain services company CaseMail as the official producer of ePostage labels. These labels will be in the form of non-fungible tokens(NFTs).

The ePostage labels will take advantage of CaseMail’s NFT mail technology touting itself to be the world’s first blockchain-supported postage.Joe Ruiz, Founder and CEO, CaseMail said,

“It’s fitting that the USPS, a historic institution that served as a vanguard during the founding of our country, is at the forefront of this revolution in communications and commerce.”

USPS’ interest in blockchain technology highlights the real-world application of the ever-so-popular technology. Since these tokens are digitally stamped on USPS ePostage labels, all the data related to the shipment is recorded on the blockchain. This creates a verifiable chain of custody for physical as well as digital assets.

Furthermore, blockchains will help to certify the content and delivery history. Also, the chain of custody can be cryptographically verified, ensuring privacy for both sender and recipient.

The initial rollout of the service is exclusive to legal professionals and government agencies. In the second quarter of this year, the company will expand it to global access primarily through integration partnerships with and consumer and business services.
