Seoul, one of the most beautiful cities of the world is ready to become the first major city government to set foot in the Metaverse. The South Korean capital recently declared its roadmap to provide many public services. Alongside some cultural events in the metaverse.
Metaverse is believed to be the next big revolution as an immersive internet adventure. As it is truly based on Virtual Reality.
As a matter of fact, South Korea’s Capital city is the only government in the world looking to invest in the Metaverse space. All this is in order to recreate the virtual Public Square.
Seoul to Develop its own Metaverse Platform
The objective of the Seoul Government is to develop its own Metaverse Platform by the end of the year 2022. According to the report made by Quartz, this is expected to be fully operational by 2026.
This platform plans to host events like Public Functions and Virtual Mayor’s Office as well. Also, spaces like the business sector, a public investment firm and a fintech incubator are involved as well.
The report suggests that Seoul Mayor – Se hoon’s 10 years dream for the city has a backing of about 3.9 billion won ($3.3 million approx). All this with the aim to improve the city’s global competitiveness and to enhance the sense of social mobility among the citizens.
The platform is set to be kicked off in December this year. Alongside a Virtual New Year’s Bell-ringing Ceremony, the city’s tradition.
As a place for virtual public services, the city eyes to open “Metaverse 120 Center” in the year 2023. In which the citizens’ concerns will be dealt with by the digital avatars, currently only via physically going to the city hall.
If everything goes on time, then the Seoul residents will be able to visit and wander the virtual city hall. Where they can perform various activities ranging from a civil complaint to touring and seeing a historic site.
The Metaverse has been seen taking major leaps in the world of the Internet and Technology. With companies like Microsoft, Nike and Meta (Facebook) as the latest to enter metaverse, this will bring out the best in the next internet revolution.
