New York mayor wants crypto to be taught in schools

With the word ‘crypto’ increasingly getting popular among the general public, many have sighted the need for awareness regarding this technology. Many pro-crypto individuals are calling for education from an early age to get a better understanding. Recently, New York (NY) mayor Eric Adams has asserted that schools should incorporate crypto as a subject into their curricula.

Eric Adams has been an avid crypto fan and is bullish on its widening opportunities in the future. During an interview with CNN’s State of the Union, Adams described crypto as “a new way of paying for goods and services throughout the entire globe”. Moreover, he has urged local schools to teach students “the new way of thinking” thanks to blockchain technology and digital assets.

He also added:

“We must open our schools to teach the technology, to teach this new way of thinking.”

The individual is also aware of the low awareness of crypto among his young constituents. Talking about that, he said:

“When I talked about blockchain and Bitcoins, young people on the street stopped and asked me, ‘What is that?'”

The 61-year old Democrat is also trying to encourage New York businesses to accept Bitcoin and other cryptos as a payment option.

However, the crypto community has given mixed reactions to Adams’ comments. Some have appreciated the move that crypto studies must be a part of the school curricula. On the other hand, others have criticized majorly due to the impression of crypto as “speculative garbage.” Many added that schools should focus on “successfully teaching math, history, science, language and actual financial concepts first”.
