NFTs will grow ‘rapidly’:Amazon CEO

Although e-commerce giant Amazon hasn’t explicitly stated that they are looking into the crypto tech, they have hinted it previously with job listings last year. However, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has recently talked about crypto and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in an interview, looking at it with optimism.

Speaking with the CNBC yesterday, Andy answered whether Amazon will accept crypto for products on its platform or will they sell NFTs. He said:

“We’re not probably close to adding crypto as a payment mechanism in our retail business. I do believe over time that you’ll see crypto become bigger.

Further commenting on whether he himself has owned any crypto, Andy said: “I don’t have bitcoin myself.”

When asked if Amazon will ever sell NFTs, Andy replied:

“I think it’s possible down the road on the platform. I expect that NFTs will continue to grow very significantly.

It’s no secret that the e-commerce giant is looking out for crypto experts for various positions in the company. Last year, Amazon’s web services division AWS posted a job listing for a principal digital asset specialist. According to the listing, the individual will have to “help drive adoption across the global digital asset community.”

Alongside this, Amazon had posted a job offer for digital currency and blockchain expert. They had listed the offering for its Payment Acceptance and Customer Experience Team. Amazon had listed this offering in June last year, aiming to develop the company’s digital currency and blockchain strategy.

Moreover, it’ll also help the company position itself and proceed with new objectives and product roadmap incorporating this rapidly-growing technology.
