One of the most popular French soccer clubs, Paris Saint-German (PSG) is looking to enter the world of Metaverse and NFTs. Recently, PSG has filed a number of trademark applications, seeking to establish the brand on virtual memorabilia namely Metaverse and NFTs.
The football club had filed the trademark application on March 16. The application includes downloadable audio and video recordings relating to sports highlights. Moreover, NFTs will authenticate all these multimedia files. Besides this, PSG has also included crypto wallet software.
Patent Attorney for the application, Michael Kondoudis shared the news on social media, stating:
“This filing represents the next logical step to protect the brand as it moves into the Metaverse. Clearly, PSG sees the potential of the Metaverse and is preparing its trademark for the virtual economy that will dominate it.“
Many European soccer clubs have ventured into the metaverse and launched their NFTs also known as fan tokens. Recently, FC Barcelona, a very popular Spanish soccer club is looking to make a move into metaverse and NFT products.
Besides this, soccer clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, etcetera. have offered similar products. This is in the form of fan tokens or tokens pertaining to memorable moments.
Kondoudis who has been tracking these movements stated:
“We expect the number of trademark filings from the professional sports sector for NFT and virtual products and services to increase over the next twelve months as brands come to appreciate the need for protections in the metaverse.“
Even before PSG’s plans of entering the metaverse world, its players have ventured into the market. A couple of months back, PSG had launched its own fan token.
