Formerly known as Facebook, Meta Inc. has recently rolled out NFTs for some US creators with support for Ethereum and Polygon Network. In the future, the company will add support for NFTs on Solana and Flow blockchain.
Navdeep Singh, Product Manager at Meta shared a sneak peek of NFTs from Ethereum and Polygon on Facebook via a Twitter post.
According to the post, users will see a “digital collectibles” tab on their Facebook profiles where they can showcase their NFTs.
Users can connect their crypto wallets to their Facebook profiles. Besides this, users can turn their NFTs into Facebook posts. By doing so, they can react to, like, comment and share just like any other post.
Martin Bryant, Tech and media consultant stated that Meta “clearly wants to offer a home to Web3 folks”. This is true since the company has already rolled out these test changes to Facebook Groups. However, this is not the first time the social media giant teased about rolling NFTs.
Previously, Meta had begun rolling out NFTs on Instagram for some creators. However, that move rolled out “in a handful of countries” in May. Besides this, Instagram shared that NFTs on the app will automatically tag both the NFT’s creator and collector.
Moreover, the company will not charge any fees for posting or sharing NFTs. Also, collectors can share their NFTs as augmented reality stickers.
Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri said that the platform will launch NFT features due to the growing creator economy. He said:
“Now, we think the one really interesting opportunity for a subset of creators is NFTs—the idea of owning a unique digital item.”
